Packers documentary to air Sept 7th - Ingles

A 60-minute documentary about the 2010 Packers season is to air at 8 p.m. Sept. 7 on the NFL Network, the night before Green Bay opens this season against the New Orleans Saints.

“America’s Game: 2010 Green Bay Packers” was produced by NFL Films and tells the story of the Packers’ Super Bowl-winning season through the perspectives of coach Mike McCarthy, quarterback Aaron Rodgers and cornerback Charles Woodson. Each of them was interviewed for at least two hours for the show.

Video and audio of the Packers were recorded during team meetings, practices, games and inside the locker room. The show is narrated by actor John Slattery of the TV show “Mad Men.”

The press release for the documentary includes some of what the three Packers’ witnesses said when they were interviewed by NFL Films.

Rodgers is asked about being chosen 24th by Green Bay in the 2005 draft.

“On the inside, there was a lot of disappointment, embarrassment, just thinking about how hard you worked,” Rodgers says. “But it was honestly the best thing that happened to me. I was 21 years old (and) I thought I was the best thing since sliced bread and I needed a little humble pie.”

Rodgers comments on what impact his selection in the draft had on Brett Favre.

“Drafting a quarterback in the first round is a statement, we all know that,” Rodgers says. “I think he was offended by it and wanted to prove that he was still the best quarterback on the team, in the league and I was going to be on the bench for awhile.”

Woodson talks about how bad his reputation was when he left Oakland for Green Bay in 2006.

“They thought I was done,” Woodson says. “They thought I couldn’t play the game anymore. ‘He’s lost a step, can’t coach him, sleeping in meetings, bad locker room guy.’ Could I still play football?
