SUPER BOWL XLIV TROPHY AND MVP PRESENTATION
(Jim Nantz) “Alright. Thank you Len Dawson. And Commissioner, it’s time for the presentation of the Lombardi Trophy.”
(Commissioner Goodell) “Tonight, the two best teams in the NFL played another classic game. Congratulations to both teams. But tonight, the Super Bowl belongs to the city of New Orleans, their great fans, and Tom (Benson) to you, Sean (Payton) and your incredible team, the hope, courage and inspiration you provided your community is inspiring. So thank you so much. Congratulations. You’re Super Bowl champs.”
SAINTS OWNER TOM BENSON
(on putting the Super Bowl win in words) “I’ll tell you, not only this city, but the whole state. And Louisiana by the way of New Orleans is back and this shows the world… we’re back! We’re back! We’re back!”
(on handing off the trophy to head coach Sean Payton) “I think I could kiss him.”
SAINTS HEAD COACH SEAN PAYTON
(on coming back from a 10-0 deficit in the first quarter and the gutsy play calling) “Well, we talked about it at halftime, and it’s really a credit to every one of these players here. There’s not enough room on this stage for all of them, but they carried out the plan and I’m just proud. I’m proud of this team, the coaching staff and everybody back in New Orleans gets a piece of this trophy. Here we go.”
(on handing the trophy to QB Drew Brees) “I want to hand this trophy to the MVP of the Super Bowl and the MVP of our league: Drew Brees.”
SUPER BOWL XLIV MVP QB DREW BREES
(on pulling off the comeback) “We just believed in ourselves. We knew that we had an entire city, and maybe an entire country, behind us and what can I say? I’ve tried to imagine what this moment would be like for a long time and it’s even better than expected. God is great, and we’ve got the best ownership family in the league, best head coach, best general manager and the best team. We proved that tonight.”
(on the Super Bowl experience feeling like a fantasy) “Just feeling like it was meant to be. It’s all destiny and what can I say? The birth of my son this year as well and the first year of his life, we’ve got a Super Bowl championship. He’s been my inspiration as well. It just doesn’t get any better than that.”
(on a long celebration coming up in New Orleans) “Thank you. Mardi Gras may never end. The celebration is not going to end.”
