Last year’s game was the most watched program in television history, with 162.9 million viewers in the United States. The Packers-Steelers championship game topped by 9.5 million the previous record of 153.4 million total viewers set last year (Colts-Saints in Super Bowl XLIV) and marks the fourth consecutive record-setting total audience for the Super Bowl. The game was broadcast to 180 countries and territories in over 30 different languages. Broadcasters from 13 countries called the game live from Cowboys Stadium. In addition, military personnel in 132 countries viewed the game on American Forces Network.
