CARRIE UNDERWOOD will sing the National Anthem and QUEEN LATIFAH will sing “America the Beautiful” as part of Super Bowl XLIV pregame festivities at Sun Life Stadium in South Florida on Sunday, February 7, the NFL and CBS announced today. The performance will be televised live on CBS Sports prior to kickoff.
More than 151 million viewers in the U.S. watched last year’s Super Bowl, the most-watched television program in history. The pregame show and Super Bowl XLIV will be broadcast worldwide in more than 230 countries and territories.
Underwood is among many great performers who have been honored with singing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl including: Billy Joel, Diana Ross, Neil Diamond, Whitney Houston, Harry Connick, Jr., Garth Brooks, Natalie Cole, Vanessa Williams, Luther Vandross, Cher, Faith Hill, Mariah Carey, Dixie Chicks, Beyoncé Knowles, Jennifer Hudson and many more. If you have to try the secondary market — and if the New York Jets win the AFC championship game Sunday — a ticket could set you back a minimum of $2,500 and perhaps as much as $9,000.
Add in some fancy parties and it could take until December to pay off the next two weeks' worth of entertainment. The Maxim party at the Raleigh? Another $1,600 to buy a pass. The Playboy bash at the Sagamore? Nearly $3,000.

Just after the game ended I had a chance to visit with (Brett) Favre for about five minutes, and I’ve never seen two quarterbacks compete and two defenses hang in there, and the offensive lines play the way these did today. I tip my hat to Minnesota. You had two teams that played their hearts out. I’m glad we were able to win and I’m proud of just having a chance to coach these guys in a game like this. Garrett (Hartley) hit a big kick obviously, for us and we just kept fighting. The momentum shifted back and forth and we just kept battling and it was a heck of a game.”

The NFL’s International Series of regular-season games will return to the United Kingdom in 2010 with the San Francisco 49ers hosting the Denver Broncos, the NFL announced today.
The game will be played on Sunday, October 31 at Wembley Stadium in London at 1:00 p.m. ET (5:00 p.m. UK). CBS will provide live television coverage in the United States.
The 49ers and Broncos are among the most decorated franchises in NFL history, combining for seven Super Bowl victories.
“For the past three years we have seen the extraordinary passion that exists for NFL football in the UK,” said NFL Commissioner ROGER GOODELL. “We want to continue to build on that passion by strengthening our ties to our existing UK fans and creating new ones.”
The 49ers, five-time NFL champions, will take part in their second international regular-season game and first as the home team. One of the world’s most popular NFL franchises, San Francisco faced the Arizona Cardinals on October 2, 2005 in Mexico City in the first international regular-season game in league history, helping attract a crowd of 103,467 to Azteca Stadium.

First of all, it was a fast start, obviously, but turnovers were huge, and then making points off of turnovers. Field position was big in that game, mostly because of the turnovers but also because of the special teams. I think our average drive start was the 50-yard line for the game, and theirs was the 35 [-yard line], so that’s big. Pressure. Third down was a big difference; we dominated third down. And then crunch time – the end of the game, the end of the half – we were successful in both of those situations. So, that’s why you win like that.”

The opponents for all 2010 regular-season games have been determined and a complete list of each team’s home and away matchups was issued today by the NFL.
The scheduling formula implemented in 2002 with realignment guarantees that all teams play each other on a regular, rotating basis. After the 2008 season, a decision was made to continue with the same rotation in 2010.
Under the formula, every team within a division plays 16 games as follows:
· Home and away against its three division opponents (6 games).
· The four teams from another division within its conference on a rotating three-year cycle (4 games).
· The four teams from a division in the other conference on a rotating four-year cycle (4 games).
· Two intraconference games based on the prior year’s standings (2 games). These games match a first-place team against the first-place teams in the two same-conference divisions the team is not scheduled to play that season. The second-place, third-place, and fourth-place teams in a conference are matched in the same way each year.
